Can you combine Remoulade with Hamburgerryg?
And can you combine Business with a ”Good purpose”?
These are very good questions, (some would even say provocative…)
and if you are Danish the answer to the first one is definitely a No.
Many would answer No also to the second question.
There is a common saying that goes “ the purpose of Business it´s Business”.
SocialGoodStories is born from this question (not the one about remoulade…) or better, from our
answer…why not?
(getting back to our rather lousy metaphor, for the last time I promise, I can tell you that my Dad puts remoulade on just about everything, but he is Sicilian, so what does he know…)
Our vision, motto, slogan, value proposition (or whatever you want to call it) is:
Promoting Social Change trough exceptional Goods and their Stories.
Everybody loves good stories and we certainly love good products, so the basic idea is to combine the two things with a “good purpose”
Before we get to proud with what we are doing…We must say that, luckily for us,
there are quite a lot of companies doing this all over the world, so the only thing
we needed to do was to choose the absolute best products with the
greatest story of social-engagement and sell them! Pretty easy…:-)
We are really excited to bring products to Danmark from producers like “Libera Terra” from Corleone.
They fight the mafia by producing high quality wines, oil, pasta, sun-dried tomatoes, and other great ecological products in land that has been confiscated from the powerful Italian ”Godfathers”, demonstrating that a “clean” economy is possible, even in places where virtually anybody pays protection money.
Another producer that you will be soon introduced to, is Sindyanna of Galilee.
They are a rare but significant example of cooperation between Arab and Israeli women.
Sindyanna produces award-winning fair trade organic olive oil, carob syrup, honey, olive oil soaps and a spice mix called Z´aatar (since I got a sample of this incredible spice mix I’ve been putting it in virtually everything from eggs to chicken..)
Their success shows that a solution to the Middle East conflict begins with creating real economic opportunities.
We didn’t even need to look so far, Denmark is definitely not behind when it comes to giving birth to social enterprises or sociokønomiske virksomhed (you can read more about it here) and we are proud to work with some of them.
Bangura, produces really cool bags in Sierra Leone, made of recycled bicycle tires in order
to sustain the Masanga Hospital Compound (one of the only 4 hospitals of Sierra Leone).
Social Food, a new way of thinking about Africa’s development, food production and social entrepreneurship. We will soon sell their amazing gourmet chocolate CocoáFair, produced in Africa’s first organic bean-to-bar chocolate factory based on social entrepreneurship.
And we are looking forward to find ways to cooperate with all the other ones.
But we our selves also wanted to “give back” and give you the opportunity to
“change the world, at least a tiny bit, one product and one project at the time.”
This is how our SocialGoodBoxes and Aktuelle Projekt came to life.
The idea is pretty simple:
We carefully select some of the best products from those providers and create a SocialGoodBox
(the first one we made is a cooking box with anti-mafia products) that you can buy or give as
a gift (we provide a nice bag and a card where you can write you message
to the lucky one).
For every box you buy, on top of getting great goods with a great story and supporting the social impact of the producers, we give 10% of the purchase to a featured social project.
This projects are small but very concrete (the first project is about buying 30 mattresses for an orphanage in Kismaphur, India).
We are also working on a way for you to choose which project should be the next one to be featured, but this is another story…
You can also donate directly to the project. Your donation will go 100% to the project (we even pay the credit card fee!) and since we believe that you should be rewarded for ”doing good”, every time you donate, we will send you a 10% discount coupon to be used on ALL our products.
